The Importance of Uninsured Motorist Coverage to Nevada Motorists

All motorists in Nevada are legally required to obtain adequate auto insurance. All vehicles must be covered by $15,000 liability insurance for bodily injury or death to one person, $30,000 of coverage for two or more people in any one accident, and $10,000 for injury to or destruction of property. Nevada does not require motorists to obtain uninsured/ underinsured motorist coverage. However, although it is not legally required, all motorists would be well-advised to consider purchasing uninsured motorist insurance.

Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can protect someone who has been injured by the actions of an uninsured driver. If you are ever involved in a car accident with someone who has inadequate insurance, you may struggle to receive compensation for losses such as medical bills and lost wages. In such cases, it is common for the victim to have to cover their own losses. Uninsured motorist coverage provides support to victims of these types of vehicle crashes.

The Insurance Research Council stated that in 2004, 14 percent of all Nevada motorists were driving without insurance. Then in 2011, the Insurance Research Council released a report that stated that one in seven drivers across the United States drive without insurance. That report stated that in 2009, 13 percent of all Nevada motorists were uninsured.
