For SSI, it is a welfare based benefit. Therefore, it is really going to look at what your means are, and how much money you have. If you have too much, then you are not eligible because it’s a welfare based benefit. But, if you are near the poverty line, then society is going to help you, recognizing you are disabled, and it could provide you with benefits.
