Driver Arrested Facing Charges for Double Fatal Crash
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Polices have made an arrest stemming from a crash that killed a man and a woman more than two weeks ago.
On May 24, Jason Quhhaar, 34, Priscila Velasquez, 34, were fatally injured when their Corvette skidded out of control on Jones Boulevard and smacked into an Orthodox church.
Witnesses informed police that a second car was racing the Corvette at the time of the accident. Police were able to review footage from surveillance cameras showing a Dodge Charger zipping past the Corvette at the moment before it collided with another vehicle.
The Charger and driver, Jovani Monarrez-Tavizon, were discovered by LVMPD on Thursday morning, and Monarrez-Tavizon is facing felony charges of reckless driving that resulted in serious bodily injury or death.
On Tuesday, Monarrez-Tavizon made his initial appearance in court. He was subsequently released on bail and came before the court. The next court date is scheduled for July.
