Goodyear Tires Recalled for Tire Tread Separation

Goodyear Tires Recalled for Tire Tread Separation

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is recalling about 41,000 of its Wrangler Silent Armor tires over concerns that some of the tires could tear and cause serious car accidents. According to a Reuters news report, the defective tires that have been recalled are used on pickup trucks, vans, and SUVs.

The recall comes after two people died this year in a rollover accident in Texas after the tread on one of the tires separated. The victims were traveling in a Ford pickup truck that rolled over.

Goodyear sent a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) dated February 22, 2012 stating that the tread on the tires may separate under “severe usage conditions.” The company also states that it saw a rise in warranty and property damage claims relating to these tire defects in 2010. The recalled tires were manufactured between March and May of 2009.

If you have one of these recalled tires, please stop using them right away. Tire tread separation is extremely dangerous. When the belt separates from the tire, vehicles can go out of control and crash. Top-heavy vehicles, such as SUVs, vans, and pickup trucks, have a propensity to roll over under such circumstances. These rollover crashes can result in catastrophic injuries or even fatalities.

What Is Tire Tread Separation?

Tire tread separation is a serious and potentially deadly issue that can occur when the tread of a tire separates from the body of the tire. This can lead to a loss of control of the vehicle and can result in a serious accident. The dangers of tire tread separation are significant, and it is important for drivers to be aware of the risks associated with this problem.

Tire tread separation is typically caused by a combination of factors, including poor manufacturing, overloading, under-inflation, and excessive speed. In some cases, tread separation can also occur due to defects in the tire design or materials. Regardless of the cause, the results of a tire tread separation can be devastating.

Dangers Of Tread Separation

One of the most significant dangers of tire tread separation is the loss of control that it can cause. When the tread separates from the tire, the driver can experience a sudden and unexpected loss of traction, which can make it difficult or impossible to steer or control the vehicle. This can lead to a serious accident, particularly if the vehicle is traveling at a high speed or is carrying a heavy load.

Another danger of tire tread separation is the potential for the tire to blow out. When the tread separates from the tire, it can create a weak point in the tire wall, which can lead to a blowout. This can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and can also cause debris to fly off the tire, potentially hitting other vehicles or pedestrians.

Long Term Risks

In addition to the immediate danger posed by a tire tread separation, there are also longer-term risks to consider. For example, if a driver experiences a tire tread separation and is involved in an accident, they may suffer from serious injuries that require ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation. Additionally, they may experience emotional trauma and may struggle with the financial impact of the accident.

To reduce the risk of tire tread separation, it is important for drivers to take steps to properly maintain their tires. This includes regularly checking the tire pressure, inspecting the tires for signs of wear or damage, and avoiding overloading the vehicle. It is also important for drivers to avoid excessive speed and to drive carefully, particularly on rough or uneven roads.

Tire tread separation is a serious and potentially deadly problem that can cause a loss of control of the vehicle and can lead to a serious accident. The dangers of tire tread separation are significant, and it is important for drivers to be aware of the risks associated with this problem. By taking steps to properly maintain their tires and drive carefully, drivers can help to reduce the risk of tire tread separation and keep themselves and others safe on the road.
