John B. Shook
30 years fighting for injured workers and disabled Nevadans. Denied claims and lowball settlements are my daily work.
Who I represent, and why it matters.
After law school in 1994, John and his wife Julie packed into their 1982 Chrysler LeBaron and drove west to Las Vegas with $200 and a plan. Ramen for dinner, bar prep in the mornings. Both passed on their first attempt.
Within a year, John left a small firm and founded his own practice, starting with criminal defense, divorce, and personal injury, and following clients wherever their problems led. Over time, the work clarified: injured people, denied claims, and insurance companies hoping no one would push back.
He built what is now Shook & Stone on a simple premise: ordinary Nevadans deserve the same quality of legal representation as the companies that hurt them. Thirty years later, that’s still the work.
Righting Wrongs
John has spent his career taking on cases that other firms won’t, and winning. He has secured verdicts and settlements against some of Nevada’s most powerful interests on behalf of injured workers, accident victims, and families who deserved better.
Forklift Accident – Catastrophic Injuries
Settlement for Thomas Novick after a 14,000-pound forklift ran over him at a worksite, causing life-altering injuries.
Construction Worker – Workplace Injury
Landmark verdict for a construction worker who suffered a traumatic leg amputation after being struck by a forklift on the job.
Past results do not guarantee future outcomes. Every case is different.
Off the clock.
John serves on the Nevada State Bar’s Mock Trial Committee and has coached multiple high school mock trial teams, including the 2019 state champions who competed at Nationals. He’s also served as past chair of the State Bar’s Client Security Fund, which compensates victims of attorney fraud.
In 2015, John, his wife Julie, and their daughter Alexandria founded SpectrumConnects, a nonprofit helping children on the autism spectrum build friendships based on shared interests. The program now operates under FEAT of Southern Nevada and has helped hundreds of kids.
John has also served as an arbitrator for the Eighth Judicial District and as a special criminal prosecutor, the courts’ vote of confidence in someone they know will play it straight.
