Benefits Under the Nevada Workers’ Comp System

According to the Nevada Division of Industrial Relations Workers’ Compensation Section (WCS), a worker who suffers an on-the-job injury or occupational illness may be entitled to the following types of benefits:

  • Medical treatment, including any and all medical care, medication and supplies related to the worker’s treatment for his or her work-related injury or illness.
  • Lost time compensation, which covers lost earnings while the worker is disabled and unable to work. Benefits under this category are available if a worker has suffered a Temporary Total Disability or Temporary Partial Disability and may be equivalent to up to 2/3 of the worker’s average monthly wage. There is a cap on the amount of wages a worker may be compensated for, which is adjusted each year. A worker who previously earned an average monthly wage of $3,600, for example, may be entitled to $2,400 per month while he or she is disabled.
  • Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) award if the worker has suffered a permanent but partial disability, such as the loss of use of an arm or the loss of a finger. PPD awards are calculated based on the percentage of disability, the worker’s average monthly wage and the worker’s age at the time of disability. A PPD award may be received as a lump sum or in installments until the worker is 70 years old.
  • Permanent Total Disability benefits, which are paid similarly to those for a Temporary Total Disability. These will be paid for the duration of the worker’s disability at a rate of 2/3 of the worker’s average monthly wage, to a maximum amount set forth by law.
  • Vocational rehabilitation payments may also be paid to a worker, paid at the Temporary Total Disability rate.
  • Other expenses may also be paid through workers’ compensation, such as mileage to and from medical appointments.
