Rainstorm Brings Spike in Las Vegas Traffic Accidents
Yesterday’s widespread rainfall brought slick and slippery roads that wreaked havoc for many drivers in Las Vegas and Southern Nevada. With a record-setting amount of rainfall this past Sunday 0.46 inches of rainfall- area roads and highways saw a dramatic increase in traffic accidents. The heavy rainfall total surpassed the previous January 11th record of 0.29 inches in 1949, according to the National Weather Service.
In a statement released by the Nevada Highway Patrol, state troopers responded to an outstanding 143 traffic accidents between 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Forty-three of the accidents involved injuries, including one injury suffered by a state trooper who was working at the scene of another fatal crash. Nevada Highway patrol troopers had been responding to an average of 36 crashes per day during the week leading up to Sunday.
