Nevada is one of the most straightforward states in the country when it comes to referral fees. Under Nevada Rule of Professional Conduct 1.5(e), you do not need to assume joint responsibility or perform ongoing work to receive a referral fee. You refer the case, we handle it completely, and you receive your fee when it resolves.

What the rule requires

Two things: written client consent to the arrangement (including each attorney's share), and a total fee that remains reasonable. We handle both — before any work begins.

What it doesn't require

No ongoing involvement. No Nevada bar admission. No court appearances. No joint liability. You step back entirely — your fee is protected by the written agreement.

Nevada vs. other states

Unlike California, Nevada imposes no proportionality requirement — your fee isn't tied to hours worked. This makes Nevada referrals cleaner and more predictable than most states.

Out-of-state attorneys

Referral fees are negotiated individually and depend on the nature and complexity of the case. We're direct about this from day one — we'll tell you the percentage before you refer, confirm it in writing, and pay it promptly after resolution. As a general matter, referral fees in contingency cases are typically calculated as a percentage of the firm's earned fee, not a percentage of the client's recovery.
