Las Vegas Police Officer Injured in Motorcycle Accident

A police officer and a woman were injured in a motor vehicle accident, which officials report involved a motorist making an unsafe left turn. According to a news report in The Associated Press, the motorcycle accident occurred at Owens Avenue and Main Street in North Las Vegas.

Officials say a female driver in a sedan failed to yield the right of way while turning left and struck the police officer’s motorcycle. He was ejected from his vehicle and sustained moderate injuries. The female driver sustained minor injuries. It is not clear if the woman will be cited.

According to NRS 484B.253: “The driver of a vehicle within an intersection intending to turn to the left shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard, but such driver, having so yielded and having given a signal when and as required, may make such left turn and the drivers of all other vehicles approaching the intersection from the opposite direction shall yield the right-of-way to the vehicle making the left turn.”

Liability & Compensation

Drivers who fail to yield the right of way to other vehicles at street intersections can be held liable for the damages they cause. Injured victims of negligent drivers would be well advised to contact an experienced personal injury lawyer who can help them pursue compensation for medical bills, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation services, lost wages, and other losses.

The injured police officer, as well as the woman who was injured in the accident, may be entitled to compensation for their injuries and losses. In personal injury cases such as this one, it is important that victims understand their rights and legal options.

Victims often have the right to seek financial restitution for medical expenses, lost wages due to missed work, and even pain and suffering damages. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help victims understand their rights and pursue a claim for compensation.
