But high temperatures pose risks that can make this a tough time for pet owners. When the summer sun shines down on Nevada, it’s a beautiful time to enjoy the outdoors with your furry companion. But with rising temperatures and increased outdoor activity, summer also brings challenges for keeping your dog safe, healthy, and cool. Dehydration, hot pavement, parasites, and heatstroke are real dangers, especially in areas like Las Vegas and Reno, where temperatures can soar well above 100°F. The good news? Across Nevada and the U.S., many non-profit organizations offer free or low-cost services that make pet wellness more accessible, even during the most extreme months of the year. Whether you’re seeking **affordable vaccinations**, **emergency aid**, or **just a little help keeping your pup cool**, these organizations are here to support both you and your pet. ## **Local Non-Profit Resources in Las Vegas, Reno, and Beyond** ### The Animal Foundation – Las Vegas One of the largest and most active animal welfare organizations in Nevada, [The Animal Foundation](https://animalfoundation.com/) provides low-cost services including vaccinations, spay and neuter surgeries, and microchipping. Stick to grassy areas or walk in the early morning or evening. **Try DIY Frozen Treats**: Blend peanut butter, banana, and plain yogurt for a cooling snack. Freeze it in ice cube trays for a pup-safe popsicle. **Know the Signs of Overheating**: Watch for heavy panting, excessive drooling, lethargy, or vomiting.
