Mandalay Bay Shooting Lawsuits

Las Vegas Personal Injury Attorneys – 888.662.2013

On the night of October 1st, 2017, Stephen Paddock used several modified rifles to fire into a crowd of some 22,000 people attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas. From his 32nd floor Mandalay Bay suite across the street, he ultimately killed 58 and injured 500+ others, many grievously. Surviving victims of the shooting and the family members of the fallen are now filing claims and lawsuits against Stephen Paddock’s estate, as well as a few other parties that could be found partially liable.

At Shook & Stone, we are proud members of our Las Vegas community. While many are still shaken by the tragic event carried out by a lone gunman, labeled a terrorist by some, we understand that we have a duty to fulfil: to provide intelligent, effective, and compassionate representation for those who deserve compensation for the shooting. Parties Who May Be Liable for Your Injuries

Unfortunately, after many mass shootings, there is little to be done to compensate the injured and the families of the fallen. Trying to sue the estate of a gunman or terrorist often reveals that the finances there are minimal or nonexistent. The Mandalay Bay shooting is slightly different, as it does appear there could be multiple parties who could be liable for the damages, including Paddock’s estate.

Our Las Vegas shooting victim attorneys can investigate your claim, discovering what liable parties you can file against, such as:

  • Paddock’s estate: Preliminary reports claim that Stephen Paddock’s estate is quite sizeable due to numerous investments in real estate across Nevada and California. The Las Vegas Review-Journal also claims that his brother said the estate would be used to benefit the victims of the shooting. If true, this defendant could provide the majority of compensation.
  • MGM Resorts: Several victims of the Mandalay Bay shooting have targeted MGM Resorts, the parent company of Mandalay Bay, in lawsuits for negligent security and inadequate staff training. The claims state that hotel staff reasonably should have noticed that Paddock was creating an arms stockpile in his room and intervened.
  • Live Nation Entertainment, Inc.: The organization that put together the music festival has been named as a defendant in many lawsuits for failing to provide adequate emergency exits and guidance during the shooting. Due to the layout of the event and the sheer number of people permitted to attend, some were trampled during the panic and many more could not find a quick escape, which may have been prevented with better event planning.
  • Slide Fire Solutions: Paddock modified his semiautomatic rifles into fully automatic rifles, which are subject to strict state and federal regulations, by using a “bump stock” manufactured by Slide Fire Solutions. Complaints have been filed against the gun part manufacturer for allegedly mislabeling the bump stock as a device to help people with limited hand use operate a firearm when it was actually created to turn a rifle into a machine gun.

There have already been class actions filed against some of these liable parties. If a class action or mass tort is the better option for you in pursuit of fair and maximized compensation, then we would be happy to sit down with you and explain how we can be of service in this regard as well.
